We paid in full in advance and stayed seven days at this five-star hotel, but the experience was terrible. From midnight until early morning, sexually explicit sounds came into our room for about four hours at a time. This is legally inappropriate for minors. We reported it right away, but the hotel didn't resolve it promptly, and the staff seemed unwilling to handle it. Later, management acknowledged lapses in how the situation was handled, and we've recorded all related communications. On the fifth night, we also found that the room's fire alarm was obstructed, a serious safety hazard. I have a recording of staff saying the last three nights' accommodation fees would be refunded, but the refund was never processed.

Set among lovely landscaped gardens, this hotel feels like an oasis in Shanghai and unlike the others. It's a state guest house with a lot of history and many notable people have stayed here. I'd definitely recommend it if you want a different kind of experience.

The friendliest staff I've met anywhere in China. It feels like a home away from home and is near the airport. Great for shabbos, with clusters of four-story buildings across sprawling grounds with waterfalls and gardens.
