Hotel Equatorial Shanghai

The water pressure was really good, I suppose. Most of the rest of the stay was disappointing. The room felt dirty when I arrived, with scuffed, marked chairs and walls that were chipping. The beds were extremely firm in an uncomfortable way, and the old TV had many channels that didn't work. Service was slow and awkward. The menu is very limited by time, too. The best dishes are available for only four hours total each day. The place feels more like a two or three star hotel, and the outdated decor might work if the quality of everything else were better.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay, and we really appreciated the warm hospitality. Isaac and Joe, especially, waited out in the cold wind to help us and other guests get taxis. The bellboys were dedicated, and arranging a taxi was fairly easy. The staff were polite, friendly, helpful, and attentive, and housekeeping did a good job. The buffet selection was impressive and tasty. Thanks to Hotel Equatorial Shanghai for making our time in China so pleasant. I'd gladly recommend it to friends and family. Keep up the great hospitality, and shine on!

The front desk staff were nice and spoke good English, but the concierge weren't willing to help when I asked for a taxi. Getting one in the morning was difficult since the hotel is on a congested main road, with few empty cabs passing by, so you may have to wait for one to come to the hotel. Room service food was so-so, and after trying it I got breakfast at Starbucks the next day. A nearby convenience store was the only real plus. I woke up to a huge dead cockroach by the door, which was not a nice experience. Definitely won't return.

There were plenty of sights to walk around and see nearby, and the subway was close. The lounge was comfortable for relaxing with my colleagues before bed, and the food was good, with both Chinese and Western choices. The staff were helpful during my stay. When my ride to the airport didn't show up, they called a taxi for me.
