Shanghai Park Hotel

My room was roomy and comfortable, and the hotel's well placed near the metro and tourist spots. The laundry service was the one downside, it costs too much. Still, it's a very good place to stay and I'd recommend it.

The view over People's Park was lovely, and the hotel's location is hard to beat. I enjoyed staying in this historic piece of Shanghai, and the little museum on the second floor explains its history. The doorman was always friendly, while the front desk staff were pleasant, if a little nonplussed. The rooms are spacious but show their age, with peeling wallpaper in places and creaky floorboards. Breakfast had a good range of Chinese food and a few standard Western options. It could be crowded, and I had to share a table one morning. The lobby cafe and bar were pleasant for afternoon tea, with a limited drinks menu and live lounge jazz. The deli is famous for its palmiers, and people queue around the block to get them. The nearby historical museum is great, and People's Park is lovely to wander through. If you like history and don't mind dated rooms, Park Hotel is a fabulous way to stay in a Shanghai landmark.

The breakfast was great, and the rooms were clean and nice. It's a good hotel, close to the pedestrian street and the Bund.
