We booked two nights at Ibis Hotel (Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station) so we could get some rest and breakfast after landing at 3:30am and arriving at Hongqiao around 5:30am. Paying for the extra night was worth it. Our train was leaving Hongqiao Railway Station the next day, and the hotel is in a peaceful neighbourhood with eateries, a Decathlon store, and a shopping mall very close by. The staff were friendly and helpful. We also went with a larger room, which gave us more space and made the stay more comfortable.

Good value for the price.

The front desk staff knew a little English, so checking in was easy. It was a handy choice before my morning flight, with Hongqiao Airport about a 10-minute taxi ride away. There are a lot of rooms, so finding the right one was a bit difficult, but it suited me well as a solo traveler. I could open the windows to air things out, which helped keep the cigarette smell from getting too strong. There was some plane noise near the Hongqiao Hotel, though it didn't keep me from sleeping.
