Oriental House was a highlight for me. The food was delicious, refined, and full of flavor. I also enjoyed access to the Executive Floor. Afternoon tea looked very sweet, but most of the items were savory or only subtly sweet, with interesting, balanced flavors. The hotel feels spacious everywhere, from the common areas to my elegant suite, which had a lovely view over Pudong. Its spectacular atrium gives the place a grand feel as soon as you enter. The location is a little outside the hectic city center, which makes it more relaxing, while still being close to everything and well placed in the business district. I genuinely loved my stay at the InterContinental Shanghai Pudong. The hotel also offers an English-speaking night tour of Yu Garden, a nice cultural touch that makes it easier to explore the city. It's a refined, comfortable place if you want luxury and space in a slightly quieter setting while staying close to Shanghai's main attractions.

The junior suite was superb, recently renovated, and thoughtfully equipped for guests' needs. As an IHG member, I received the upgrade. The hospitality, customer care, and professionalism of the staff were definitely the best in town. My experience was wonderful from check-in through check-out. At the front desk, Ms Yolanda and Ms Scarlett were outstanding in how guest-friendly and helpful they were. They deserve recognition for going above and beyond.

The location is good, close to a mall, and the hotel runs a free shuttle twice a day to two other high-demand areas. Space is limited to 12-14 people, so I'd recommend reserving a spot the day before. In winter, the rooms don't cool down. The hotel has positive pressure, so opening a window draws air from the hallway instead of bringing cold air in. That's a plus if you're always cold, but a downside if you tend to run hot. Breakfast is decent, much better than most hotel breakfasts in the USA, though the choices are mainly Asian.

I loved this hotel, and the staff were very accommodating. It's high quality, though it feels like it's starting to age a little. That didn't take away from the experience. I'd happily stay again.

10/27/2025 - The InterContinental opened almost 30 years ago as Pudong's first 5-star hotel and mainland China's first InterContinental. It has 418 guestrooms on floors 5 through 23, with three Junior Suites and one Diplomatic Suite (Full Suite) on each floor. The world-famous InterContinental Club Lounge is on the 24th floor. The Atrium (atrium) is impressive and reserved for events. Many foreigners stay at this 5-star hotel. At check-in, I was offered a complimentary welcome drink at the LOUNGE 777 Qi Jiu Lang. Thanks to IHG and its ONE REWARDS membership program! I was also impressed by Diana Ding, who helped me check in and fixed my WiFi issue. My Google Pixel 10 had a strange, unknown glitch, and IT staff at two other Shanghai hotels had tried hard but couldn't resolve the same problem. We loved the Junior Suite, especially the marble bathroom. Wow. You don't find that feel in newly built Marriott Premium or Hilton hotels in the U.S. The luxury hits you as soon as you walk in. No wonder we saw so many foreigners coming and going.
