The hotel itself is exquisite, with comfortable rooms and excellent amenities. I especially liked starting the day with a buffet that mixes Western and Eastern food, then spending some tine in the executive lounge in the evening. It’s a remarkable place in an amazing city, and I’d highly recommend it.

I was there for four nights on a business trip. The staff were friendly and understood English well, and the grand decor and common areas gave the property a welcoming, classic feel, with vintage architecture and fixtures. The rooms seemed small by comparison, though, and the villas and buildings are spread across a huge area. Taxi drivers had trouble finding reception, and there weren’t clear directions to help. The biggest issue for me was having to leave a 4,000 Yuan deposit when the room had already been fully prepaid. They still insisted, even though it was a corporate booking. Vegetarian food choices were limited, and the menu felt repetitive throughout the week. There also wasn’t much food within walking distance. For the room rates, I didn’t feel it was good value.

I liked the food, and the lobby felt refined. The hotel has a historic mansion that reflects its colonial heritage, surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens. Set in the former French Concession, it offers a quiet, elegant retreat in the middle of the city. A charming and pleasant place to stay.

The staff at check-in were nice, and the property looks beautiful outside and in the lobbies. The location is decent too. But the rooms felt damp and a bit run down, so the price didn’t seem justified. The lobby bar was pretty depressing, with a drink selection like a Holiday Inn in rural Ohio. You may be staying a fair distance from the main lobby, and I rarely saw other people around.
