JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong

The room was great, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. I’d had to leave a terrible hotel that was under construction, and the Hongta (Marriott luxury collection) was sold out, so I ended up at the JW. The staff helped me switch hotels and get a taxi over, then made check-in really easy and were so accommodating. I wish I’d had time to try Flint. I’d absolutely recommend staying here, and I’ll come back.

The staff were friendly, and there was plenty to choose from at breakfast. I ate at the Flint steakhouse a few times, though after my Shanghai trip I felt unwell from something I’d eaten. The hotel itself was decent. One thing to know if you plan to walk there: there aren’t proper sidewalks leading to it.

The room had a strong, unpleasant mold smell, and even after another two hours trying to sort it out with staff, the problem wasn’t fixed. Before that, check-in and communication had already taken more than two hours and caused a lot of inconvenience. The whole stay was far below what I expect from Marriott and made the room uncomfortable. I’d suggest avoiding this property.

Breakfast had a great selection, with tasty local dishes, and the outdoor walking paths were nice too. My room, 1812, was spacious, clean, comfortable, and had a lovely view. Staff were attentive and professional from the concierge and front desk through to the F&B team. Housekeeping even rolled up my charger cables each day, a small detail that made a real difference. A wonderful stay, and I wish more hotels offered this kind of service.
