The building is old and sits in an old neighborhood, which has its own charm if that’s your thing. My room was very large. There’s a nice Italian restaurant downstairs, though it can get a bit noisy on weekend evenings.

We stayed two nights in late July with our daughter, who liked this place even more than the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai. The B&B is tucked into an alley in the French Concession. Its owner runs an Italian restaurant, and the service was friendly and helpful, with tips about old Shanghai. Most routes run along tree-lined Changle Road. The subway takes a bit of a walk, but it’s manageable, and shared bikes are easy to find there. The shops on the road each have their own character. There was also a washing machine in the bathroom, which took care of our laundry while traveling.
