Getting into the city center takes time because traffic moves slowly, but the hotel is well placed for Pudong and the airports. The room was one of the most comfortable and luxurious I’ve stayed in, with just about everything, including a heated Japanese-style toilet, remote-controlled curtains, and even a scale. The huge bathtub felt like a dream, and they supplied bath salts. Breakfast was great, with Asian and Western choices, made-to-order eggs and noodles, and plenty of pastries. Room service brought tasty food from the restaurant. What made the stay for me, though, was the outstanding care from Lucas, Grace and Francis. They went out of their way to help me with technology problems, including Google in China, and made sure I was looked after. The hotel itself is beautiful, and I’d recommend it to anyone who appreciates attentive service and some luxury.

The hotel has a bold noir look, and the welcome package was light. Staff were friendly and helpful, and even offered to pick up my delivery in the cold weather.

The location may be a challenge if you want to be right in the middle of everything. There’s a simple mall within walking distance, with a 7-11 and McDonald’s just steps away. Inside, the modern, spacious room felt comfortable straight away. It’s a real stunner, like walking into a fashion shoot. There are lots of knobs and buttons to figure out, so have someone show you how they work.

There’s a rooftop infinity pool with a great view from the poolside cabanas, where I relaxed. They do require a swimming cap to use the pool. The hotel also has a bar, restaurant and a few leisure rooms to explore, and they’re great for taking pictures. The decor is stunning, dark and moody but classy, and the rooms are very spacious and thoughtfully designed.

A number of restaurants and stores are nearby, and the nearest mall is a 15-minute walk. The staff were great. The hotel is modern and nicely designed, with premium wares and fixtures. I had an excellent stay.
