After arriving in Shanghai late at night, I thought I'd go hungry, but the hotel had a midnight snack waiting. That warm bowl of congee felt like just the right welcome and eased my travel exhaustion. Such a gentle, warm beginning to the journey!

Good location and clean, but the staff get really loud when they start their regular cleaning at 9AM. You can hear doors closing from five or six rooms away. There's air conditioning but no heater. If you're coming in winter, you may need to ask whether they have an electric portable heater.

The toilet overflowed and made a huge mess, and in June mosquitoes were all over the room. I got bitten everywhere. There were also plenty of credit card payment mistakes by staff who didn't seem trained, which caused a lot of headaches. The bathroom and toilet layout is really inappropriate too. The handwashing basin is right in the room, outside the bathroom. I've never seen that before. Avoid at all costs.

The breakfasts were delicious, and unlike most hotel breakfasts I'd call a waste of money, I'd definitely pay for this one. There's a pretty big shop by the hotel, another one nearby, and several real Chinese restaurants with great food at super cheap prices. The rooms look like they do on the website, though they're bigger than I expected. Plenty of power outlets too, Chinese and European-like, plus USB plugs. Very nice hotel!

L took very good care of us, with great hospitality. The hotel is very close to the exhibition center.
