The toilets flush automatically, so you need to unplug them if you don't want to wake your partner in the middle of the night. And the room doors chirp or beep two seconds after opening, presumably to stop people leaving them open by mistake. It's totally unnecessary, and normal use sets it off about 80% of the time. God forbid you're actually trying to be quiet. That's enough to take off a whole star. Otherwise, my experience was mostly positive: friendly service, clean rooms stocked with free water, a good breakfast buffet that costs extra, and a metro station nearby.

The rooms were roomy and comfortable, and the price felt fair for what you get. Breakfast noodles were especially comforting, and the attentive service stood out. There’s a delivery robot for bringing food up and free laundry, both great extras. The restaurant is small and the lobby feels more like a three- or four-star place than a luxurious one. The neighborhood is quiet, though that also means it lacks much of a lively atmosphere. The Sun Moon Light Center is close by, but I didn’t get to shop there. It’s about a five-minute walk to the subway, and Shanghai South Railway Station was also manageable on foot since I was heading to Hangzhou the next day.
