Miju House Jing'an

Once I’d settled in, I ended up being quite impressed with the place and stayed all four nights. The room was much smaller than I expected, though, and that first night I nearly left. After a long journey, I was too tired to move, and it was already late. I’d arrived around 11 p.m. for my first trip to China and couldn’t find the accommodation or get in touch with anyone there. A kind person nearby called for me and helped me get the key from a locker outside the building. Without them, I probably wouldn’t have gotten into my room that night. The location was unclear, and I wish the accommodation had emailed detailed directions and explained how to retrieve the locker key, especially for late arrivals. It’s still a good place to stay, but I strongly recommend contacting them ahead of time for clear instructions. I regret the location confusion and the trouble getting in.

The room was a good size and cozy, and being in a residential complex gives you a feel for local life. The address is No. 15, Lane 733, Kangding Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai. Changping Road subway station is nearby, about a 260-meter walk from Exit 3, and a taxi from Pudong Airport costs around 200 RMB. There’s no elevator, so you’ll have to carry your luggage. We knew that and were okay with it, but consider your physical ability. The shower pressure is extremely low, and near the end only very hot water comes out. The bathroom and toilet doors are transparent, which could feel awkward if you’re staying with friends.

The hotel is closed, but it’s still taking money for reservations. Be careful!
