MoYu Movie Hotel (Shanghai People's Square Nanjing West Road subway station)

The room is clean, comfortable, and in good shape, but I can’t rest with the renovation noise upstairs. Drilling and hammering go on from about 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM every day. The hotel said work would run from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, but it starts much earlier. I’ve already told them, and the noise still begins each morning.

The staff were pleasant, but the rest of the stay was far below what we expected. Two of our three rooms smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Staff openly said they don’t enforce the no-smoking rule, which other reviews had complained about too. The hotel wouldn’t take responsibility or refund us, and only offered an air freshener. Our family of six left that same night and booked another hotel. The rooms felt dirty and worn, with cracked walls, stained sofas, and sticky floors. The setup also felt sleazy, with vending boxes for condoms and adult toys in every room and a “sex playlist” in the media system. The “gym” was just a laundry room with a treadmill and a bike. The place felt smoky, dirty, and inappropriate. Hope this helps someone avoid the same experience.

The room had no smoke smell, though there was some in the hallway and a little of it got inside now and then. It was recently renovated and larger than a typical room, but the facilities are unavailable while renovation work is underway. The location is good, although a bit far from the Metro. The coffee candy at reception is really good.
