New Harbour Service Apartments

Dashijie station is within 300m, with food, shops, tourist spots, and the metro close by, so the apartments are good value as a base for exploring Shanghai. People's Park was pleasant, though we didn't have a water view. Our room and bathroom were clean and tidy but not spotless; we're fussy, and most people would likely find the unit fine. The place feels more like a good 3 star than a 4 star, and the staff were efficient. Be civil and don't expect 5 star service. The pool looked distinctly uninviting and tired, and after seeing a guest spit beside it, we didn't swim even though we had planned to. The gym is usable, but it's also worn and needs maintenance. I'd skip breakfast at the hotel since there are lots of places nearby. If Chinese is a struggle, just go in, look around, and point to menu pictures or what locals are eating.

We loved the place. The breakfasts had a great range of food, and the hotel was clean and neat. Several familiar attractions, including the Bund, Nanjing street, people's square, and Yu Gardens, are within a 2km radius. It's centrally located.

It's an apartment rather than a typical hotel, but it covers the basics. The place was clean and nice, close to Da Shi Jie metro on line 8, with lots of food kiosks and restaurants around. The gym could use some improvement. There's also a sauna and heated pool.

Scam Alert My wife got makeup on the sheets, and the staff realized we had a flight to catch and used that to hold our bags until we paid for new sheets. I asked them to wash them, but they said there weren't any washing machines. I pointed out the six machines in the third-floor laundry room, and they told me those were only for guests. They also said they never washed sheets, just replaced them when needed. I offered to take the sheets to a laundry and pay their price, but they claimed there wasn't one, even though there's one just across the road. They charged my credit card before returning our bags. Beware, they may hold you hostage, and apparently they don't wash the sheets!
