Oriental Riverside Hotel Shanghai

The location was amazing and the rooms were OK, but the service was dreadful. I had an appendix stone and was in serious pain, unable to stand. They wanted 1000 YUAN (150 US Dollars) for just 30 minutes in a wheelchair. I still can’t believe they charged a hotel guest that much in an emergency. They wouldn’t call a taxi or hospital service either, even though none of us had a Chinese phone number. After an hour of arguing, we finally convinced them to help. There were other problems too. A dirty shirt would cost 150 YUAN (20 US Dollars) to clean. And when I was desperately thirsty and felt like I might collapse, we called reception to ask for water, but they forgot. It was a horrible experience. I’d like to come back to Shanghai, just not this hotel. I’m not trying to be dramatic, and I really hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously.

The rooms were clean, modern, and very well soundproofed. Staff were pleasant and helpful despite the language barrier. A lovely place to stay, and I’ll definitely come back when I return to Shanghai.

The canal views are breathtaking, and you can hop on boat rides right outside the door. Such a lovely hotel, especially with that location.

The rooms are roomy and comfortable, and the hotel was clean and tidy. It’s handy for the Tourist Tunnel, which goes under the river by cable car to the Bund. Since it sits right beside the convention centre, it doesn’t have much personality. Still, it worked well for my Shanghai conference.
