Regent Shanghai Pudong

From the restaurant, the city skyline looks amazing. The buffet is on the small side, but it was pleasant for a few days, and we liked having complimentary afternoon snacks. Breakfast was decent, though coffee choices were limited. They made cappuccino, and somehow four staff members were needed to work the machine. Our 37th-floor room was comfortable and had a great view. The hotel is clean and modern, set in the business district, away from the crowds but still close to things. There are nice walks and views right outside, and Lujiazui Riverside Park is about a 10-minute walk away. There’s both a spa pool and a regular pool. You have to wear a swimming cap, though, and since we hadn’t brought one, we had to buy one. It seems common at five-star hotels around China, but it’s annoying.

The room view was breathtaking, one of the best I’ve ever had, and the hotel manager also stood out as attentive and caring. It’s clear he values both his staff and the guests. What really made the stay for us was Max. On October 24th, he helped with everything, from our luggage to answering questions and showing us where to go. As tourists, we found it hard to get around when almost everything was written in Chinese, and he made things so much easier. He was kind, patient, and always willing to help. Honestly, I’d book this hotel 100 times over because of him. Rhea, who I believe is the concierge, was incredibly sweet and helpful too. She made sure we had what we needed, and together she and Max made us feel looked after. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels around the world, but the people here genuinely care, and that makes this place stand out. With Max and the team around him, we had a five-star experience from start to finish.

What I’ll remember most is the help we got after leaving. My baby’s stuffed kitty had rolled under the bed, and I only realized it was missing on our flight back to the US. I contacted the hotel right away. They quickly told me housekeeping had found it and was keeping it safely in storage. There were lots of emails back and forth to work out how to send it to the US, and Evelyn Li, Taya Zhang, and Daniel Su always communicated clearly and quickly. I can’t thank them enough. We’ll definitely return, and I wholeheartedly recommend the hotel. The stay itself was lovely too. We were upgraded to a suite with my plat status. Our room on the 31st floor had gorgeous views, a smart Toto toilet, and an amazingly comfortable bed. They provided a Graco pack and play rollaway crib for my 19-month-old. The hotel is conveniently located on Metro line 2, easily walkable from both Lujiazui and Pudong South Road stations, and close to the Pearl Tower and the Shanghai Aquarium.

With our two children, we had a fantastic time here. The rooms were spacious and high quality, with a breathtaking skyline view. We also really enjoyed the pool and wellness facilities, and the metro station right next door made getting around convenient. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. You can tell the hotel is well managed, and we especially appreciated seeing the General Manager around. Food and drinks were outstanding, particularly in the lounge, with nothing left to wish for. We’d wholeheartedly recommend staying here and would happily come back anytime.
