Renaissance Shanghai Putuo Hotel

The room had a bed with an unpleasant smell, so we complained. The reception and concierge staff took it seriously, moved us to another room, and provided some other hotel benefits. The rooms are spacious, and breakfast has a wide variety.

A quiet spot with a good location, if that’s what you’re after. There are a few hotels nearby and handy amenities, including an underground shopping mall. There’s also a hippo grocery inside where you can check out local eateries. The small neighborhood mall has lots of food as well, mostly Chinese-style and with a bit of spice, of course.

We’re pleased with how supportive and service minded the hotel is. The staff are responsive to travellers’ needs, and I especially want to thank Frida. She patiently showed us how to connect Alipay for metro use and gave us great suggestions about transport. She answered all our questions with a friendly smile. The hotel is very close to the metro stop and shopping.

The people we met at the restaurant and in the hallways were some of the nicest we’ve encountered across Marriott hotels, and they left us with a great impression of the Renaissance brand in China. At the Renaissance Putuo Hotel, Clark made check-in especially welcoming. I remember him as “the superman.” He spoke English really well and shared useful information. He paid close attention to our requests and concerns, and when we mentioned the room felt hot, he found us in the lounge to ask whether a fan would help. He sent one up, then his team called a few hours later to see if it had made a difference. Many thanks to the staff and management for a wonderful stay.
