I last stayed at Merry Hotel in 2005 and enjoyed it then. Now it's October 2025, and the hotel is just as good as it was back then. The room is comfortable and well equipped, and I'd recommend Merry Hotel to anyone who doesn't want to spend too much. Go for it! I traveled from Scotland via Auckland to Shanghai and back to Surfers Paradise.

I got a great price on Agoda for a good-value hotel in a great location.

The room is small and has stained walls, the breakfast is below average, and the front desk service is horrible. This is a bad hotel, two stars at best in my view. At the spa they offered masturbation when all I wanted was a foot massage. Even the foot massage itself was poor, as the masseuse didn't seem to know how to do one.

The hotel looks impressive from outside and in the photos, but I found it a major disappointment. I've stayed in many hotels in China, and this was my worst experience. It was very hot and there was no AC; staff said it was broken. The gym is run-down, and there isn't even anything available to clean the equipment before or after using it.

The hotel has been renovated, and the rooms are okay for the price in Shanghai. Service was good. There are two restaurants, one Chinese and one Western, though people don't usually have dinner at the Western one.
