Shanghai Alight Hotel

We found the concierge patient and very helpful, and the English translator device came in handy since we didn't know Mandarin. The dining area staff were friendly too. The room was basic but okay for the price, although our non-smoking room smelled a little of smoke, apparently from the vent. Getting to the Shanghai center took about 20 minutes by car, so it was a bit far.

I had a very bad experience at Alight X Hotel Shanghai when I checked in on 26th December 2023. The male staff member handling my check-in put my passport in a pail of water while making a photocopy. The photocopy machine was right beside the pail. I got back a thoroughly soaked passport, with water marks on every page. The staff member tried to explain why the pail had to be there. In my view, Alight X Hotel management is putting guests' passports and travel documents at risk this way. These documents, especially passports, are extremely important when travelling abroad as proof of identity. Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website says a passport is damaged if it is no longer in a condition to be accepted as proof of identity by a foreign country. That can include tears, missing or detached pages, loose or frayed binding, water-faded pages, damage to the radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip, or a cracked or detached biodata page. I hope Alight X Hotel management takes this seriously and prevents this from happening again.

I stayed here on September 18-19, 2024. The room was clean, the furnishings and size were adequate, and the bed was comfortable. The only downside was that the staff didn't speak English.

It's convenient and great, just a short walk from the subway station.
