We had a great stay, so I was surprised by the negative reviews. Our three-bedroom apartment was roomy and well equipped. Getting around was easy, with the Metro line 2 within walking distance. There’s also a nice kids’ play area, a supermarket and several good restaurants in the center.

A big thank you to Jack at the front desk. I arrived very late after a long trip from the U.S. with my child, and he was so sweet and helpful that check-in felt much easier. I really appreciated all his help.

After we plugged in our video camera to charge, we asked housekeeping to clean the room and went out. When we came back, the camera was gone. We reported it to management. They said they investigated but found “nothing,” then insisted the camera must still be in our luggage, which it definitely wasn’t. Their response was dismissive and unhelpful, adding to an already upsetting incident. We trusted Shanghai Center Serviced Apartments to keep our belongings safe, and that trust was completely broken. Our stay was ruined. If you care about your things and peace of mind, avoid this place.

We chose Shanghai Centre Serviced Apartments over the holiday season mostly for its location, about a 10-minute walk from the subway. The furniture was worn out, the internet was poor, and the breakfast voucher had very few choices. My orders were often wrong, too. The bigger concern was housekeeping. My box of sanitary pads from overseas went missing, along with one of the four boxes of Chinese sweets I’d bought as family gifts. At least they left the other three. I didn’t report it because the missing items weren’t worth a fortune and I wanted to avoid the hassle. If you’re bringing anything valuable, stay somewhere else. Aysha Al-Sheeb

Our two-bedroom place was spacious, clean and well maintained. I’m glad we chose it instead of booking two hotel rooms.
