Shanghai Fish Inn Bund

The room was compact but had enough space, with good air conditioning and heating. I could hear noise from neighboring rooms, but not from the street. The staff were very helpful, and I could easily stay here again. We paid £33 a night. The location worked really well for us, close to the Bund and other tourist areas but quiet enough at night. Nanjing Road East Metro is a few minutes' walk away. There's a Bao stall or shop on the corner down the road, good for breakfast. My favorites were leek and onion, and sesame. They also had custard for the Mrs, at ¥2.50.

The staff were friendly, and my room was spacious and mostly fine. The courtyard outside the window got very noisy early in the morning, though, and there was a sewer-like smell. I’d meant to book Fish Inn Nanjing Road East and even went there first. Both places are close to the metro and the main shopping street, so the mix-up wasn’t a big issue for a one-night stay. The other hotel looked much nicer, especially its reception, though I can’t say what its rooms are like. The prices were similar. I don’t have major regrets, but I wouldn’t book this one again.

A clean bed in a great central spot without spending much. The hotel feels older and isn’t like a big chain, and the entrance can be tricky to spot: it’s on the road beside the bridge. Still, for the price, it’s clean and well located.

We could walk to good restaurants and shopping, and the hotel felt worth the money. The rooms were clean, though one of our three had a strange sulfur smell from the bathroom drain. I hadn’t expected the interior to look as good as it did given the location, which wasn’t terrible but wasn’t what I’d pictured. The front desk staff spoke English and were eager to help. One man had an odd air about him and seemed deliberately difficult, while grinning, so I really didn’t warm to him. I’d still recommend the hotel.
