I was in transit at Pudong airport in Shanghai with about a 9-hour overnight wait, unsure whether to get a hotel. Some hotel staff came over to talk to me. I wasn't expecting a 3- or 4-star place, just somewhere comfortable for a few hours, but this was the worst hotel I've experienced. It was dirty, messy, smelly, and they changed the price on me. They first said 250 yuan, then charged a service fee when I arrived because I paid by card. I'd just arrived in China and was only staying a few hours. Who's going to withdraw cash in that situation? Silly. Please be careful if hotel staff approach you at the airport. Booking through Agoda or Booking would be safer.

The only real advantages were being about 10 minutes from the airport and having an on-time shuttle. For around $45 USD a night in China, with nothing nearby, I expected more. The lobby seemed fine, but the filthy, worn carpet on the room floor was a bad sign. Everything felt grimy and tired. The beds were harder than granite, the shower had mold around its edges, and the wifi kept cutting out. At least the hot water worked.

We were brought here from the airport, but the place was messy and people smoked everywhere despite the No smoking signs. The room was bad, the bed was rock hard, there was no heat, and the bathroom was dirty enough that I didn't even take a shower. Whatever the price, it's too much.
