The staff at reception, concierge, and elsewhere tried hard to help, even when they didn’t speak much English. I appreciated the extra effort. The room was huge and comfortable, with a strong shower and very soft, clean towels and robes. The bed and pillows were fine, just a bit too soft for my taste. Breakfast had lots of options; the restaurants were okay but a little pricey, while room service impressed me. The view was of a construction site and a bridge, so not great. A short walk gets you to a wet market, mall, and shops, and there’s a tuktuk if you get lost.

It’s a new hotel with an efficient feel, and it has a gym and a pool. The pool closes very early, and my Bonvoy status wasn’t recognized. They’re building something in front of the hotel, so there can be noise. The location is a bit removed from anything interesting, including shops.

The executive lounge has a good selection, and the modern rooms are nice. The pool and gym are lovely, and there’s even an English movie channel as well as news. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest metro station. This has become my go-to hotel in Shanghai.

I wanted to try somewhere new in Shanghai this trip, so I gave this one a go. Just for reference, it’s advertised as a new Marriott but is actually a refurbished Wyndham, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I have no real complaints, though unless I need to be near Yangpu, I’d probably choose somewhere else next time unless the price makes the extra taxi or Didi cost worthwhile.
