We were a multi-generation family and needed connecting rooms for our holiday stay of about nine days. Booking by phone was easy, and the suite arrangement gave us two large rooms connected to a third with two full beds, so we had lots of space and were comfortable. The suites included free drinks, breakfast and a daily happy hour that was basically a full buffet dinner. We were also invited to a special Christmas dinner at the bar named after Charlie Chaplin, with its big plush seats. The food impressed us, with dishes changing daily, an egg and noodle bar, and lots of friendly staff. Jacky Li and Jack Jia at the Circle Cafe were wonderful. One morning Jacky made us a special Shanghainese soft tofu soup (dou jiang) from 1949, pictured! There were lots of old-school film artifacts around the lovely hotel, and a selection of classic Chinese films was available to watch for free on demand in the room. The gym was well maintained, and we liked the pool, though it was very chlorinated. You'll need to bring your own swim cap. We were also grateful to the amazing housekeeping staff on our floor, Connie G and Sophia Wang, who were always there to help. We'll remember this stay very fondly.

The housekeeping team made the stay more comfortable. They were efficient, discreet, friendly, and clearly dedicated, and their work helps maintain the hotel's standards. The stay was pleasant overall, though there are a few areas that could use attention. At reception, English communication was limited, and some staff spoke so quietly that it was hard to understand them. A little more confidence and language support could improve things for international guests. The indoor pool also felt cold, both the water and the air, which made it less comfortable. Some residue was visible on the tiles, giving the impression the area might not be cleaned as often or as thoroughly as expected.

A classic, convenient hotel just a step from the famous Nanjing Road. The rooms are quite small, but have what you need, including a bathtub and a full range of TV entertainment.

The old cinema theme shows up throughout the hotel, with references around the property. Staff are courteous, and breakfast has a good mix of Western and local food, from continental dishes and fruit to dim sum and noodles. It's a ten-minute walk to Jiao University Metro and SJTU, which makes tourist spots easy to reach.

I spent two weeks here and had a pleasant stay. The location was lovely, and the staff were kind, helpful and professional. The hotel is next to the Shanghai Film Art Center, with McDonald’s, Starbucks, Japanese food and other dining options nearby. Several convenience stores stay open around the clock, and electric bikes are easy to find just outside. Taxis are readily available through reception, WeChat or Didi, which I'd recommend. The hotel is wheelchair accessible and suitable for guests with mobility needs. Jiao Tong University subway station on Lines 10 and 11 is about a 500-meter walk, handy for getting around. Breakfast could offer more Indian options. Pudong International Airport is about 40-50 km away, and the trip can take around one to one and a half hours depending on traffic.
