Sheraton Shanghai Chongming Hotel

The staff made this stay special. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and most spoke really good English. Tony and Jeff from the main restaurant were especially great. It felt like the team worked well together and enjoyed their jobs. This was the best service we’ve ever had in China. The hotel is only 1.5 years old, with spacious, clean rooms in very good shape. We visited over a long public holiday weekend, when more than 500 guests were booked instead of the usual 30. Even so, the food was good and service fast. The large pool was completely empty between 11 and 3pm. There’s not much around the hotel, and Shanghai is 1.5 hours away. It’s 10 minutes from the highway, 20km from the wetland park, and a 20 minute walk to the Yangtse river. The area is flat and great for long walks. Bikes are available to rent, but 100RMB an hour is rather high. The location in nature, amenities, and especially the service make it highly recommended.

We visited in spring, when the flowers were out and the scenery was quite beautiful. The area around the hotel still feels deserted, though. There’s a villa development across the street that seems nearly empty, and it feels like a product of the real estate market’s vanity. We came on a Saturday, and breakfast suggested there were quite a few guests, especially children, who were happy about the free ice cream. I hope the area develops better.

There’s nothing around this resort hotel. The staff are very friendly, though few speak English. The breakfast buffet has lots of tasty choices, and surprisingly every room has a bidet toilet.
