Homeinn Pebble Hotel (Shanghai Jing'an Train Station)

There’s a washing machine and dryer, and the hotel is conveniently close to a metro station, one stop from the train station. Every now and then, I noticed cigarette smoke in the toilet. There isn’t a smoke detector in there, though I guess that may not be the hotel’s fault.

The area felt quite safe to walk around in, both during the day and at night. There’s a small, modern shopping centre right next to the hotel with a KFC and Paris Baquette, and a Metro station is just around the corner. The room rate was very reasonable, and Front Desk and Housekeeping service was good. I stayed at The Starr Hotel Shanghai for two nights, from 5 to 7 Sept 2025. Keep in mind that no one speaks English, so use a translator app on your phone.

The room was spacious and clean, and housekeeping kept it spotless throughout my stay. Staff were helpful, the Wi-Fi worked well enough for me to work, and check-in and checkout were quick. Starr Hotel Shanghai is also close to a subway station, which made getting around easy. For the price, I found it very good value. I’d happily stay there again and recommend it to people visiting Shanghai.

I paid extra for a deluxe room, but the hotel gave me the basic room instead. I contacted them to sort it out, but couldn’t get anywhere, and they refused a partial refund to match the lower room rate. The room was also quite dirty, dusty, and had lots of hair from previous guests. It smelled of smoke even though I’d asked for a non-smoking room. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
