The breakfast was terrible, with very little choice, and the food was served cold and in bad condition. The hotel felt overrated to me, more like a two-star place. The front desk was unfriendly and rude. Rooms were old and worn, and even the supposedly better deluxe rooms had lots of faulty equipment, especially the heater in winter. I changed rooms three times, moving from a superior room up to their best deluxe range. The upgrade wasn’t free, and even then the equipment still had problems. Switching rooms took hours, including at midnight, and I caught a flu from it. No one even apologized. They’d promised us a late checkout because our night had been disrupted, then insisted on charging extra for it the next day. It wasn’t impressive at all. I’ll never stay here again. They don’t really welcome foreigners.

For the price, this was an awesome long stay and absolutely worth the money. I booked through HotelClub and got a good discount. It isn’t in the center, but the location is still good, close to most central places, a few minutes’ walk from Nanjing Road East metro station and not too far from the Bund. Taxis were easy to find most of the time, or hotel staff could help call one. The staff were very good and understanding, and there’s a pub and a few food options in the hotel. One downside was that the carpet didn’t seem to get vacuumed regularly. For Wi-Fi, you need a separate modem, which the hotel provides in exchange for a deposit.

The Bund is overrated and overcrowded. It’s nice enough for a picture or two, but I wouldn’t go to Shanghai just for places like the Bund, old street, or the former French concession. I didn’t stay at this hotel, so I’m talking about the Bund in general, not the hotel.

The location wasn’t that great, and getting into the hotel meant struggling with our luggage up a very steep flight of steps. The bathroom was filthy, with black mould around the sink and mould and grime in the shower. This is the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Absolutely disgusting.

The room’s general cleanliness was average, with dust in a few spots. They didn’t regularly replace the shower gel, coffee, or tea, and the cups were left as they were. The hotel was okay overall. I was in Shanghai for my daughter’s graduation and chose a riverside room with a 33% discount through Expedia. It’s a five-minute walk to the city centre, which I can only describe as their Oxford St. Would I stay again? Yeah, maybe.
