The language gap made even simple requests difficult. None of the staff spoke English, so ordering room service was a struggle even with Google Translate. In the end, a local friend had to arrange a McDonald’s delivery for us. I understand this hotel is in China, but being part of an American chain sets expectations for international guests. Even basic English support would help. The staff seemed dedicated to attentive service within their capacity. The lobby makes a striking first impression, with dramatic hanging lamps, a grand illuminated staircase, and lighted palm trees. The hotel itself is beautiful. Rooms are a standard size, thoughtfully arranged, with comfortable beds. Breakfast was another bright spot, with a wide buffet selection in a pleasant, well-maintained open dining area. The central location is a real advantage too. It’s a 10 minute walk to Shanghai’s famous waterfront promenade, with some of the city’s best views.

I misplaced my wallet in the hotel elevator, and Mr. James Yin found it promptly. He contacted me to confirm my identity and kept it securely in the hotel safe until I could pick it up. His quick response and thoughtful follow-up spared me a serious inconvenience that could have disrupted my trip. Mr. Yin also recommended Mr. Andy Qi from Shanghai Go Travel Consulting for a three-day private tour of Shanghai and nearby cities. That suggestion led to an exceptional trip, with excellent customer care, careful time management, and high-quality service. Without Mr. Yin’s recommendation, I wouldn’t have had that enriching experience. I’ve been a Marriott Titanium member for 14 years and have stayed in hotels for more than 1,200 nights, so I’ve seen a wide range of service. The lobby and reception team were helpful and quick to respond to questions, especially at the concierge counter. When asked, they gave useful advice about places to eat and things to see. James Yin was particularly helpful and made our stay enjoyable and memorable. He’s a good example of a dedicated staff member who treats guests with warm hospitality. The hotel is conveniently placed within walking distance of Shanghai’s main areas and places to eat, including The Bund, about 10 minutes away. Our room was clean and had a nice view, and housekeeping did a very satisfactory job with care and honesty.

The room was filled with cigarette smoke from the moment we arrived, and the smell got worse at night until we couldn't sleep. We had an early airport trip at 4:00 am, but after we told the front desk, they asked us to wait 30 minutes for another room. When we called again, someone suggested opening the window, even though it was December. I can't imagine how difficult that would be for someone traveling with kids. We'd had to cancel our first hotel and booked this place for one night because it's close to the airport, despite the high price. The stay wasn't cheap, and they don't offer free cancellation even if you cancel within 24 hours. Toothbrushes and toothpaste weren't in the room unless requested. If you have another option, I'd avoid staying here.
