Urcove by HYATT shanghai Jing'an

The room change helped somewhat: after I raised the temperature problem again the next day, a female staff member offered us room 7001, which had a window we could open. The first room, 7020, was stuffy and very warm, with little ventilation. The front desk turned off the heat and air conditioning and gave us a fan after we complained. Other problems kept adding up. The room door wouldn't lock, the cup didn't fit in the coffee machine, and the Wi-Fi was poor. There also seemed to be a lack of staff training at both the front desk and the second-floor café. Some staff seemed uninterested, especially two male café employees who appeared more focused on their phones. When we asked a female staff member whether our SF parcel had arrived, she said it hadn't and wasn't helpful; a male employee later found it. The café chair in the photo also raised a cleanliness concern. We don't understand why the hotel wouldn't use plastic chairs if it isn't prepared to clean or disinfect those chairs. We'd enjoyed recent stays at Hyatt Place Dongmen and Urcove Sungang in Shenzhen, so we chose Urcove for Shanghai. This stay disappointed us, and we're unlikely to return. The one saving grace was the offer to move rooms. To us, this Urcove is a discredit to the Hyatt name.

The lobby had free desserts throughout the day, and they served wonton soup each night. Breakfast was good too, with plenty of Eastern and Western choices. The rooms were clean and the service was good. It's not close to the airport or downtown, but the metro is right around the corner, which I liked.

The metro is right across from the hotel, so that's probably the easiest way to get around given Shanghai traffic. There are eateries within walking distance and a FamilyMart opposite. DIDI is handy too: the ride from Pudong airport took around 50 minutes, while the Bund was about 25 minutes away, Xinle road around 10, and Wukang mansion about 20. Our room was clean and fairly spacious for two. I liked having the shower and toilet in separate rooms, and the toilet had a bidet. Toothbrushes and toothpaste are available on request, and there's a free laundry room on level 3. In the evening the hotel serves free porridge and dessert soup (tong sui). The staff were all friendly and nice.

It's the service that really sets UrCove by Hyatt Shanghai Jing’an apart for me, on top of the hotel's surroundings and facilities. Anna, the team leader or manager at the Front Desk, deserves special mention. Her care and service stood out for both quality and speed. The hotel is lucky to have her on the team, and I'd happily recommend it to people in my circle.
