You can get to the MRT in about five minutes on foot, and there are plenty of places nearby for food and coffee. The staff were really friendly, the room was high up with a nice view over the city, and I enjoyed the food too. One small hassle: Didi drivers can struggle to find the entrance, so it’s easier to meet them at the end of the road.
During exhibition season, the rates can be competitive. In quieter periods, though, I’d look at other hotels if better options are available. It’s in a residential part of Xuhui district in Shanghai. Moxy is a budget Marriott brand, so expect basic rooms and not much service from staff.
Getting here can be frustrating because Didi directions are inaccurate and drivers have trouble finding the hotel. The building looked run-down, the lobby was messy, and my room was very basic.
I stayed at moxy Marriott hotel in shanghaie from November 26th to December 20th, but left around noon on December 11th. It was absolutely the best hotel in china for me. Everyone took good care of me, from the room service and breakfast staff to the people keeping things clean. I especially have to mention KENT AT FTONT DASK, a champion. Awesome, patient, very kind, tolerant, professional, and caring. Go visit MOXY MARRIOT HOTEL, best place to be. God bless America 🇺🇸 🙏 ❤️
The rooms I had were cleaned well, and the housekeeping staff were friendly. There’s a kettle and two cups, but no teaspoons, tea, coffee, or sugar. There’s also no room service. The hotel’s advertised ironing boards, but there’s no laundry on site. When I asked the front desk about nearby laundry, they just waved toward the road. The closest place is actually 1.4 km away and has very bad reviews. Another is about 5 km away and requires a 300 RMV membership fee first, which isn’t great for tourists. Getting around was a pain too. Didi and taxi drivers can’t come to the entrance, so you have to go about 70 m to a busy street to meet them. Sometimes they won’t stop on your side, leaving you to cross four lanes of traffic or stand in the rain. The hotel is in Shanghai’s homemaker Centre area, with few restaurants within walking distance. At check-in, we saw a front office staff member yell across the bar at a guest who had just returned a key, saying, “you must pay for an extra night.” The English-speaking guests looked surprised and said it was no problem. We were then given the wrong rooms, below the upgraded level we had paid for. It’s interesting how they seem to make that mistake when you check in late, and never put you in a better room by mistake. When we raised it, the staff member said no rooms at our paid level were available that night and asked if we wanted the room we were entitled to the following night. Strange to have to be asked that. Breakfast the next morning was nearly as bad. The cooked food was cold when collected, it was served by pager, the choice was very limited, and there were hardly any napkins or cutlery. Front office staff were extremely rude, rushed, and unwilling to help paying guests. There’s no concierge or information, and the night security guard was literally asleep at the desk when we came in. That part was entertaining, though.
