Yitel Collection (Shanghai train station)

The staff were very helpful, and the room was clean and spacious during my three-night stay. The hotel is fairly close to the metro. We got by using a translator to communicate, and I’d definitely recommend staying here.

We were here just to sleep for four days, and the stay was okay, but the hotel needs improvement. It doesn’t feel set up for tourists. The staff seemed to speak only Chinese, so you need to know Chinese to get by. The room’s soundproofing was poor. I could hear the neighbors talking very loudly, doors closing, and noise outside. There was banging that seemed to come from the elevator, five doors away, plus construction or remodeling at 7 in the morning that kept me from sleeping. The heat was bad too. It ran automatically and couldn’t be turned off, then stopped in the middle of the night and left the room freezing. I coughed like crazy all night in the room, compared with outside. Also, watch out for the mode at the bottom of the bathroom shower.

The hotel was clean, with no smell of smoke, and they let me leave my luggage before check-in and after check-out. It’s near the Shanghai railway station metro.

Getting around was easy from here: it’s very close to the railway station, connects to several metro lines, and the quiet area has a few convenience stores and restaurants. The staff and I communicated in English through a translation app, which worked fine. I stayed in a Business Double Room. It was clean and had enough space for a large suitcase. A wardrobe separated the bed from the couch and coffee table. That sitting area got quite cold in the evenings, perhaps because it was near the window, while the bedroom stayed pretty well insulated. The shower had good pressure and temperature. The tap water sometimes smelled odd in the evenings, but overall I had a decent stay.
