The location was why I picked the Zen Hotel, and during my five nights in Shanghai I had a good stay without major hassles. It’s close to Shanghai Station Exit 6, an easy walk even with luggage, and handy if you’re taking trains. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, including quite a few local favorites. The room looked much like the photos, though it felt a bit dated rather than brand new, and cleanliness wasn’t perfect. Still, they cleaned daily and replenished towels and bottled water, so the basics were taken care of. Staff were friendly. They don’t speak English, but we managed fine through WeChat. The heating worked well in winter, and I slept comfortably with no noise or other major inconvenience.
