Bodhi Boutique Inn is right in the middle of Shangri-La's Old Town, just steps from restaurants and shops. It made a great base for exploring, and the lively old-town feel is all around you. The owner made the stay feel personal and took care of everything. She even prepares breakfast herself, a lovely touch. The rooms aren't especially large, but they're cozy and spotlessly clean. A friendly, comfortable place in a great location.

It was minus 7 degrees Celsius when we arrived, but the staff had already warmed up the room and beds. The heated floorboards kept it wonderfully cozy. The staff were friendly and spoke English, too. The hotel sits right at the edge of the Ancient town. Cars aren't allowed in, so your didi drops you off and you walk about 70 meters. From there, many Ancient city attractions are conveniently close.

Good value for the money, with comfortable rooms and heated floors. The hotel is right in the center but tucked onto a quiet street, and the service was great.

We chose to eat breakfast at another restaurant, though breakfast was available for an extra charge of about 200 Baht. When we booked online and got confirmation, the guesthouse called right away to arrange a pickup point. We reached Shangri-la (Zhong Dian) by bus, waited about 10 minutes, then a friendly man came to collect us for free. He shared lots of useful information about the city and traveling to Meili snow mountain. Our room was clean, safe, and convenient, with free WiFi. The one thing I found uncomfortable was the restroom, which was enclosed with opaque glass. There were only a few other guests while we were there, so it was very quiet, though I can't say if it would stay that way when busier. The location wasn't a big issue for me, since we wanted to walk around and explore the town anyway. If you have a specific destination in mind, choose an inn that suits it. A Tibetan temple on a nearby mountain overlooks the whole town. I thought the price was reasonable, and would recommend this place if you don't have a plan yet.
