The 21m prayer wheel is the main attraction, with 1.24mil scripts (prayers) inside. It takes a lot of people pulling together to turn it. The park is free, but you need to reserve a time slot through WeChat. If you don’t book, you can pay ¥32 for an audio guide to get in straight away, which I found ridiculous. It’s open 24 hours, and the lights make it glow beautifully in the dark, though it’s too crowded for decent photos.
Admission is free, but you need the WeChat APP to scan the QR code and reserve a spot, with a quota of around 160 people per hour. It gets pretty crowded in the evening, though the crowd’s combined strength is needed to pull the massive prayer wheel around.
You can enter for free, but you need to scan and book a time slot for the prayer wheel and temple. It’s a nice area for photos, and I spotted a few halal restaurants on the way there.
This Buddhist area sits beside the old city of ShangriLa and looks especially nice in the evening. It was founded around 1779 by Dali Lama IV.
At night it’s a lovely sight. The Buddhist complex sits on a turtle-shaped hill and has the world’s largest prayer wheel. In high season, you need to reserve a 2-hours-visit-slot by scanning the QR code on the signs at the bottom of the hill with WeChat. In winter, watch your step on the stairs going down, since they can be quite slippery.
