Ibis Hotel Shantou Xiaogongyuan

The location is the biggest draw at Ibis Shantou Xiaogongyuan Hotel. It's in the middle of Xiaogongyuan, with the Xiaogongyuan Sun Yat-sen Memorial Pavilion and Laomiao Temple about a 5-10 minute walk away. There are plenty of nearby food options too, including snacks and Laomiao Temple rice dumplings, so it's easy to explore Chaoshan cuisine on foot. The rooms aren't especially big, but the layout works well and the simple modern look is pleasant. Everything was clean, the pillows had a comfortable firmness, and even as a light sleeper I rested well. The bathroom has separate shower and toilet areas, hot water runs all day, and toiletries are supplied. The laundry room and dryer were especially handy for a long trip. There's also a small gym with basic equipment for a quick workout. Staff were welcoming at check-in and offered tips on local attractions and restaurants, including popular spots that helped us avoid tourist traps. When we had issues during the stay, they dealt with them promptly, which made us feel welcome. The breakfast spread was modest but tasty and nicely done. It included local choices like rice noodle soup, steamed buns and eggs, alongside bread and milk. The food tasted fresh and homey, there was enough to fill us up, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. For the price, this Ibis is a good deal, with a convenient location, helpful service and solid facilities. I'd stay here again if I return to Shantou.
