Shantou Junchao Hotel

The place was clean and the people were kind. There was no ice box, though. ^^

The hotel serves Cantonese dim sum of decent quality, though there aren't many other restaurants nearby. The rooms are clean, well equipped, and reasonably priced. Getting around is very inconvenient right now because Shanzhang Road near the hotel is being renovated and part of the road to China Travel Service/CP Group is closed.

I came back to Shantou and stayed here. After I left, I realized I'd forgotten my wallet. The staff found it and contacted me right away to collect it. They were very helpful and promptly asked me to check whether any cash or cards were missing. Thumbs up!

We booked 10 rooms online for a self-driving trip around the Chaoshan region and were getting ready to leave after checking out that morning. Some of our group had gone to a nearby market. About half an hour after check-out, the hotel called to say a showerhead in one room was broken and they wanted RMB 250 from the deposit. They also wanted RMB 20 for a towel with tea stains. We knew this couldn't be right, so we returned to argue. The housekeeping manager insisted on taking the fees from the deposit. The amount itself was minor, but being cheated as Hong Kong residents was a serious concern. We spoke to the manager and immediately called Ctrip and the Shantou Administration for Industry and Commerce to complain. At first the hotel manager changed his position and offered to deduct RMB 150, which we still refused. After two hours of back and forth, he finally understood and decided not to deduct anything. My suspicion is that staff took advantage of most guests having already left for the train station, airport, or tourist attractions, when they would be too busy to come back and check their rooms. That's deceiving guests. Please be careful. I also suspect staff used company funds to replace showerheads and towels, then after collecting enough, embezzled and sold them for cash.
