The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and breakfast was amazing. There are lots of amenities for a comfortable stay. It’s about 45 minutes from both Shaoxing city center and Shaoxing North railway station, but that didn’t change my rating. I had an amazing stay at Sheraton Shaoxing hotel.

I had a great experience here. The room had a very nice view, the hotel is beautiful, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast was amazing too, and it’s great value for money.

The hotel cancelled my booking hours after I made it, without notifying me. They said the original price was an error, even though I had booked months ahead and arranged all my travel, including a non-refundable flight. That price was reasonable for a hotel with such a low rating anyway. Several Westin hotels in mainland China have similar prices and ratings above 4.4. Marriott’s app shows this hotel at around 3.5, far below other Sheraton hotels in its portfolio. This was the worst Marriott hotel I’ve ever encountered. Sheraton Shaoxing Shangyu shows no respect for guests’ benefits or legal rights. Marriott should lower its category from 3 to 1. A new Hilton is opening in the area soon, and its service and customer care are much better than the Sheraton brand.

There are very few food options within walking distance, and it’s hard to communicate with the staff if you don’t speak Mandarin. Reception staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, and the service standard was very poor. The room air conditioning couldn’t be adjusted, either. It only had ventilation mode, which blew warm air. Probably the worst Sheraton or Marriott hotel you could find.
