Ambassador Hotel

The city view looked really nice at night, and the location is super convenient. There’s a mall right across from the hotel.

The rooms are spacious, especially the shower area, and the hotel feels fairly modern. Grand Theatre Station is about a 10-minute walk away, with a fancy mall right across the street. Google Maps gave me trouble finding the place, though I eventually got there another way, so keep that in mind. There’s also a language barrier if you don’t speak Mandarin.

The twin room was tidy and had enough amenities, and the complimentary buffet breakfast made the stay worthwhile. We were accepted as walk-ins, and the service was polite, if rather obligatory. Coming in from the nearby station in pouring rain with little spare clothing, a robe would have been useful. There was a smoky smell in the room and on the floor, coming through the air conditioning vent. Good value if you’re on a tight budget and want a nice change from roughing it.

We kept getting yelled at by the front desk guys, who seemed to get mad over everything. There are a million rules here: you can’t stay in the lobby at night to play cards or even sit and talk with friends. Terrible place. Find somewhere else.
