I picked this hotel because it was inexpensive and I didn't want to stay right in the tourist area. It's close to the metro, about a 7-10 minute walk, and there's a lot of greenery, which is rare in downtown Shenzhen. For what I paid, around 220 RMB a night, the room was okay, though the walls and door were thin and didn't block sound. Earplugs are a good idea for sleeping. There aren't many food choices nearby. Most restaurants are upscale places for business or social dining, so for street food you'd need to eat before coming back. One odd detail: my room had a gamer-style computer station. I'm not sure why guests would want to use that big screen.

Getting a taxi here can be a hassle since plenty of drivers don't know the place. The lift is tiny and takes ages, and breakfast was pretty limited. They even served bread without butter, which was hard to understand. The room itself was okay and fairly spacious, but the bathroom door only opens from one side. With it shut on the bathroom side, you can't use the toilet while someone showers. There's nowhere to hang clothes in the bathroom, either, so you have to come out after showering before getting dressed. No wardrobe, just a wall hook.

Inside OCT, the location is handy and the price was good. There's a market close by, plus lots of coffee shops and bars. The staff couldn't speak English, though.

The rooms have had a recent renovation and were really clean and tidy. Just be aware there aren't any safe boxes.
