The hotel's art is impressive throughout, even in the small corners. There is a lounge reserved for elite members, though the hot food selection during happy hour was disappointing. St Regis Shenzhen had a wider range of hot dishes at the same time. In the room, the Samsung TV lets guests cast directly from their own Android devices, which made viewing convenient and more personal.

The design is the standout at Shenzhen Conrad, and in some ways it reaches Waldorf Astoria level. Yabu's work gives it a strong Eastern character and makes it a flagship Conrad in China for cultural expression and execution. But service has loosened, membership perks feel limited, and conferences and influencer crowds get in the way of the calm luxury the hotel should offer. Even so, the property shows real ambition and care within its own approach. I've seen how quickly Shenzhen's hotel scene changes. I first visited during Shenzhen Conrad's trial opening in June 2023 and came back after quite a while to find many updates. It's in the heart of Qianhai CBD, beside MixC Qianhai, though the surrounding development is moving more slowly. The bay-facing building has open views without new construction blocking them, a rare plus. The owner, Hongrongyuan, a prominent Shenzhen real estate group backed by a Chaozhou-Shantou family, has clearly invested in the building and design. The Chaozhou influence comes through in the feng shui details. A nearly ten-meter-high entrance feels grand but calm. Taihu rock and a Taiji yin-yang symbol sit by the doorway, with a yellow circular dome above for heaven and a reflecting pool below for earth, balancing sky and ground, motion and stillness. The figurative sculpture beside the entrance became popular on social media. Its decorative details have been changed several times because of copyright issues, but it remains a popular Qianhai photo spot. Well-dressed influencers often crowd around it, which can detract from the guest experience. Inside the welcome lobby, a red maple tree signals warm hospitality. The elevator lobby has a rising spiral sculpture called Tower of Stars, decorated with outlines of fishing village homes to evoke Shenzhen's change from a small fishing village to a metropolis. On the fifth floor, Yabu+Pushelberg's restrained style continues at reception. Three corridor sections and high ceilings create a serene, majestic feel. Compared with other modern Conrad hotels, this one leans more clearly into Eastern character. Behind the desk, City Rhyme is a wall installation that breaks down features of seven traditional Chinese architectural styles, including Shanghai, Beijing, and Suzhou schools, adding cultural depth. There is still a clear gap in service. Since opening, the hotel hasn't offered suite upgrades to Diamond members. I stayed this time in an executive guest room at a corporate rate, with no welcome amenities and no proactive offer of the signature rubber duck or bear. The 51-square-meter base room is well equipped, though, with a Washlet toilet, Dyson hairdryer, Byredo amenities, and 5100 mineral water, making for a comfortable, practical business stay. Breakfast used to be a semi-buffet in the executive lounge, with privacy as the goal. It has moved to The Common Room, the all-day dining venue, and is now a full buffet. I arrived near the end of service, when hot-food stations were being cleared, and had to ask staff specifically for the signature Chaozhou-style seafood congee. Compared with the hotel's early days, the food standard has noticeably slipped.

The location is decent, and the staff are friendly. This is a modern Conrad with a fresh breakfast buffet, though the selection isn't huge. The food quality makes up for that. The pool was fine, but felt a bit sterile and not especially inviting. Five stars are deserved.

The service is what made my stay stand out. Amanda Zhang and her team were professional and welcoming. Amanda arranged a few business meetings for me in the lounge, greeted my colleagues warmly, and helped the conversations run smoothly. When she found out I had to catch a mid-flight in Hong Kong, she also organized a relaxing arrangement that made the trip easy. The amenities at Conrad Shenzhen are great, but the hospitality is the real reason I'd recommend it for business or leisure. Thanks to Amanda and the team for making the stay memorable. This is my first hotel review. I've traveled often and stayed at Conrad properties in Las Vegas, NYC, London, and Seoul, as well as Beijing and other luxury hotels. Conrad Shenzhen easily ranks among the top three I've experienced.

This was one of China's most anticipated hotels in 2023. I spent two nights in the 100sqm suite at AUD $1400/night. Even as a diamond member, I wasn't upgraded to a suite and had to pay the difference. The design is lovely, with very high-quality decor, and the service was flawless. The restaurant food was delicious, and the view felt stunning and peaceful. I'll come back.
