Holiday Inn Express Shenzhen Nanshan by IHG

The location near the station was handy, and the hotel seemed reasonably clean. We also got a welcome drink. But the room was a maze to find, and the numbering was confusing since the floors seemed to go only up to the third. Ours had no windows. Breakfast wasn’t good, with only a few choices. The potatoes looked roasted but were sweet and cold even on a warming element. It was frustrating to have other guests smoking in the hallways, though that seems to happen often in China. The staff seemed overworked too: the same woman was at the front desk when we checked in and again when we checked out before noon the next day.

The room had plenty of bottled water, and the shower was very comfortable. The staff were all lovely, and the service was excellent, easily 5 stars+++. I was 200% satisfied. Breakfast was very good too. When I asked for a vegetarian meal to take to the exhibition hall for lunch, the chef readily agreed. The soup was delicious, with fresh cauliflower and broccoli and just the right seasoning. They packed it with disposable chopsticks and a bag. The hotel is right by the subway, and the ride to the International Exhibition Center takes less than 50 minutes. Lots of small restaurants nearby make meals convenient. The room could use better ventilation, though, and had a slightly strong humid southern smell. Fixing that would make it ideal for business travelers.

The area feels quite spacious and getting around is convenient, with the subway station just a two-minute walk away. I’m moving in in December 2024. There’s still a bit of a decoration smell.
