The room was comfortable, clean, and kept in good shape, and the location made it easy to get to attractions and transport. What really made my day was the thoughtful birthday decoration the staff prepared for me. Thanks to Ms. Freda Fu for that personal touch.

The lounge and restaurant staff were welcoming and attentive, asking about what we liked and quickly adjusting the dishes. That same InterContinental standard showed throughout our three days at InterContinental Shijiazhuang. The stay was too short, but the staff made the whole family feel warmly looked after, and we're looking forward to returning. Before check-in, guest relations got in touch, asked carefully about our room preference, and helped arrange it. At the front desk, the receptionist was skilled, professional, efficient, and friendly. They also took our special circumstances into account and made arrangements that went beyond what we expected, easing practical worries and solving problems. Thank you. Kind regards, WEI.

The view was beautiful, and they had Coke Zero, which isn't Diet Coke but is close enough. There was also the usual IHG charging station with four USB ports, though I wish there'd been a power outlet near the bed. My main issues were the winter A/C and the noise. Like most hotels in China, the A/C doesn't run in winter, so if you prefer a cold room, you may need to open the window. But my window faced a badly planned highway merge, with horns going off constantly. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. The temperature issue and honking kept me from giving a full four.

There didn't seem to be anyone keeping an eye on quality. The rooms and dining halls were filthy. On top of that, the air conditioning didn't work in either of the two rooms I tried. Even set to 16°C, the temperature stayed at 27°C, and my colleague had the same problem.
