We paid 100 RMB for a showerhead that was already loose and leaking when we arrived. My friend and I checked into room 4186 on the evening of September 4th, 2024, and left at noon on September 6th. It was barely usable, so my friend didn't think much of it at first. After checkout, the hotel told us it was damaged and demanded compensation. We explained that it had been loose from the start and got worse with use, but the hotel still insisted we pay. Guests shouldn't be charged indiscriminately when equipment has defects. Hotels should provide good facilities and can reasonably seek compensation for damage caused by human error, but they should note defects and tell guests about them beforehand. Check the equipment in your room as soon as you arrive and report even minor irregularities, not just damage. Otherwise, if something goes wrong during your stay, you could be held responsible and asked to pay, whatever the cause. Reporting issues right away may help avoid a dispute at checkout.
