What I’ll remember most from our trip back to China is the Four Seasons Hotel Suzhou. We’d never stayed at a Four Seasons before and were excited to see how it compared with Marriott luxury hotels. The day before check-in, the hotel emailed to ask whether we had any special requests, which was thoughtful. From the moment we arrived, we were taken with the atmosphere. We had a corner room on the third floor of the West Wing, were welcomed with tea at check-in, and a concierge escorted us to the room. The hotel has its own private island in Jinji Lake, a secluded spot. My teammate had a slight cold, so we asked the front desk for extra water and they quickly brought ten bottles. We mostly stayed on the property, taking photos and walking around. Breakfast is a must when staying at a luxury hotel, and the buffet here was incredibly varied and plentiful. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the coffee was impressive too. When staff heard we were leaving Suzhou by high-speed train, they offered to pack snacks and fruit for the journey. That small gesture convinced me I’ll return to Four Seasons Suzhou next year. This hotel and its service won us over, and we’ll definitely be back.

A terrible hotel. I checked in at 10 PM, and the ground-floor room I’d booked had spiders on the curtains. The manager moved me to what they called an upgraded room, but it didn’t feel upgraded. It was on the third floor, with a lowered ceiling, and the soundproofing was really poor. Because I had too much luggage, a staff member said she’d bring a fruit platter to the new room. I waited 30 minutes and nobody came. At reception they said they were making a premium platter, which surprised me because I hadn’t asked for one and nobody had mentioned different platter options. It was already late, and their attempt to make things right took too long. After I complained about the noise in the second room, they agreed to move me to a suite. I came to enjoy my trip, not suffer through it. The Four Seasons Hotel Suzhou left a bad impression. I’m dissatisfied with the hypocritical employees.

Our group of friends booked three rooms for an unforgettable Christmas stay, and everything surpassed what we expected. The service was impeccable. A woman at the front desk, who had transferred from Hangzhou Four Seasons, helped arrange our rooms and restaurant bookings both at the hotel and at the Four Seasons Hangzhou. I’m sorry I didn’t get her name. She was professional and genuinely warm, with a kind of hospitality I haven’t experienced in a long time while traveling. The food at Jin Jing Ge was outstanding, the best meal of our whole trip to Suzhou.

Our Jinji Lake Suite felt wonderfully spacious, with a breathtaking balcony view over the water and skyline. The Four Seasons Suzhou is a grand resort on a private island in Jinji Lake, with enough to make the hotel a destination on its own. The experiences here were special. Afternoon tea on a private yacht was once in a lifetime, and the Lobby Lounge, with its iconic pink moon, is a lively place to gather. We also enjoyed the mixology workshop and the signature “7 Gates of Suzhou” cocktail. Dining was just as impressive, from Jin Jing Ge, with its huge indoor pond and excellent hairy crab, to the generous breakfast at Yun He. The extensive spa, indoor pool, and lush grounds make it easy to relax. A great choice for anyone who wants memorable experiences and grand resort-style living.

We had a perfect stay, from arrival through departure. The welcome was warm, and the staff spoke English very well. They were attentive and helpful, and gave us a major free upgrade to one of the villas, which was just perfect. Breakfast was delicious, the General Manager was engaging, and the kids’ playroom was wonderful. The pool area was nice, and the outdoor pool has a great view, although it was still closed for the spring season. They arranged a nice car for our departure, and included an extra hour of free photos. Really nothing to complain about, and I’d fully recommend it.
