The service was pleasant, but the hotel didn’t match the standard of the others on our tour of China. The rooms felt three-star, and breakfast choices were limited, mostly aimed at Chinese guests, with very few international dishes. Its location worked well for exploring Suzhou’s canals in the evening. The 86 bridges and old residential buildings look beautiful lit up during a canal cruise.

I stayed at this hotel in Suzhou for a few days 23 years ago, so this may not be very useful now, but I still remember how much I loved it. The whole place had a distinctive, classic Suzhou Garden theme, unlike any hotel I’d stayed in. It was also extremely close to the famous Lingering Garden, and the restaurants and food nearby were really nice.

A great hotel among Suzhou’s historic sites, with luxury accommodation for bed-and-breakfast money. We paid 30 GBP per night for a suite. There’s a huge shopping mall and many, many restaurants within walking distance.

The food was probably the standout of my trip to Suzhou. The ingredients were fresh and the cooking was excellent. If you want proper local Suzhou dishes, give this place a try.
