A wonderful boutique hotel on shangtang street, with easy access to the little shops along the old street. Getting a trolley suitcase around can be a bit tough.

The hotel combines the old Suzhou setting with a modern, spotless interior. Large shopping malls are within walking distance, and the staff are happy to show you how to get there. We stayed as a family and felt well looked after. The staff arranged boat rides, offered food recommendations, called taxis, and helped us avoid being overcharged. Xiao Xu was especially warm and helpful. He made my family feel at home and recommended trusted taxi drivers so we could get around safely. Scholars Hotel Shantang Mansion is in the ancient city area. For help with arrangements or local prices, just ask the staff. It made a safe and convenient base for exploring Suzhou.
