YHA Bradbury Hall Chek Keng Youth Hostel (Sai Kung)

The shared kitchen is great, and the staff are friendly. It's set apart from the residential blocks, which makes it a decent place to get away from busy Hong Kong. The price seems fair for the quality. Rooms are quite clean, though the sheets were a little dirty and the pillows very hard. The toilets were very clean and didn't have lots of insects. There are some seated toilets as well as squat ones.

The glamping setup was neat and clean, and the washroom was decent with hot water. Just be ready for a lot of stairs between the tents and the washroom. The kitchen has plenty of utensils, an oven and a fridge to use, plus hot drinking water and other basic amenities.

The location is great, and there's plenty of cooking equipment and fridge space. Both times we visited, the person looking after the place was kind and helpful, and happy to speak English. The rooms are basic, with air con and fans, but the beds feel a bit short if you're over six feet tall. Toilets are squat only and can be somewhat dirty, though the showers have warm water. It gets crowded with schoolchildren on public holidays, so quieter dates are better if you'd like to have the place to yourself.

I've been coming to this camp every summer for more than 10 years, and it's become like a second place to me. I've had so many enjoyable, memorable experiences here that the five stars feel deserved. I've also volunteered around the site over the years, painting walls, cutting grass and cleaning kayaks, and I've built tree houses and zip lines. The facilities themselves aren't very good: the bathroom is always smelly and dirty. Judging on facilities alone, I'd probably give it two stars.
