Shangri-La Tianjin

The river views were lovely, especially at night when the lights came on, and I slept well thanks to the comfortable beds and soundproof rooms. The staff were welcoming, the location made it easy to get around, and I enjoyed both the varied breakfast and the on-site restaurant. My room also had the basic amenities, including a tea and coffee maker. I’m still waiting for the roughly 1000 RMB deposit I paid. Staff said the refund may take one or two weeks after checkout, which is inconvenient when travelling. Taking card details as security would be easier than asking for such a large payment upfront. There are plenty of positives here, but it’s worth knowing about the deposit process.

The room had a really bad smell, and there was no ventilation. The floor carpets were old and hadn’t been cleaned.

The buffet food wasn’t fresh and wasn’t cooked well, and there was a cigarette smell in the gym. The room TV may have been fine in 2010, but it doesn’t meet 2025 standards. The fridge and the neighbours were noisy too. The biggest problem was the noise at night. Street work had been going on every night from 10 pm to 5 am for a couple of weeks. Service was good only if you didn’t expect anything. My stay at the Shangri-La Hotel was unpleasant.

We came to Tianjin for my husband's birthday, but the first hotel we booked was disappointing, so we moved to Shangri-la Tianjin for our last night. That turned out to be a great choice. Niki welcomed us warmly at reception and helped arrange an early check-in. The concierge noticed my husband's birthday while checking his passport, and they promised him a cake. Everyone was helpful during both check-in and checkout. We paid a little extra for lounge access, and the lounge was beautiful with lovely staff. Our room was clean, had great amenities, and offered a wonderful river view. Thanks to everyone at Shangri-la Tianjin for rescuing our weekend and making my husband's birthday even happier.
