We had a good stay in the end, mostly thanks to a few staff members who were empowered to make things better. The rooms were spacious, especially the ones with king beds. The Korean restaurant served good food at reasonable prices, and the staff remembered us. Andy even got the chef to make something that wasn't on the menu. The concierge also saw that we had an early pickup before breakfast service started and offered to pack food for the ride. Getting there and arranging a transfer was a different story. The hotel is about a two-hour drive from either Sanya or Haikou airport, so it's not a great location for international travelers. I had two reservations and couldn't find an email address to arrange a transfer. I asked Marriott for one, waited three days, then called the hotel long distance to request an address so I could send my request. We couldn't communicate properly, and it took four days to sort out. For a five-star hotel, there wasn't even a website or email address. With the distance from both airports and the communication problems, I wouldn't make it my first choice for hosting foreign guests.

This is really a spa and relaxation kind of hotel. For activities, there's massage, golf, and tennis, but not much else, and I didn't see any nearby attractions. It could use more things for guests to do, maybe archery. They do show beach movies at the beach bar, though sitting and listening there isn't very comfortable. The grounds are pleasant and clean, with helpful, friendly people around. The beach right by the hotel is clean too, but farther along there's some trash. The food was great, prices felt fair, and the shuttle service was good, though the ride takes a little over an hour. For English help, ask for the Hotel Manager or Front Office Manager. Both speak it fluently and were very supportive when communication was difficult. I'd stay again.

The room smelled bad, and it was noisy everywhere during our stay, like being beside a construction site. The pool inside the room isn't suitable for swimming, and a nail sticking up from the floor could easily injure your foot. We complained, but nobody seemed to care about how we felt. I've never had this kind of experience at a supposed five-star hotel.
