Millennium Wuxi

The decor was beautiful and the service attitude was great. Rooms were roomy, very clean, and not too expensive. Breakfast had lots of choices and was very good, and the Japanese restaurant was quite good too. The gym was impressive for a hotel gym in China, with actual barbells. The concierge wasn’t the best when I asked about getting to Shanghai.

The large rooms are a plus, and having English-speaking receptionists makes things easier in a smaller city like Wuxi. Still, there’s no frequent visitor program, and vegetarians have limited restaurant choices. I stay here mainly because it’s very close to my workplace.

I stayed for more than 30 days, and the room cleaning was really bad. I never saw a housekeeper use the vacuum cleaner to clean the rooms, even though it was sitting by the cart. There was always dust in the carpet, and the tile floor wasn’t washed either. Sticky stuff kept getting on the soles of my feet. The doors also closed with a very loud sound. I emailed the manager, but nothing improved.

I haven’t stayed at the hotel, but there’s usually a steady flow of guests. I bought 100 pool or gym visits for around 3900 RMB, so 39 RMB each, which is a very good deal. The Millennium pool is close to New District, has clear, clean water, and isn’t as hot as many other pools in China. There’s a lifeguard on duty all the time, free towels, a hot pool and a sauna. Flutter boards can be rented for 10 RMB each. The gym is clean, has decent equipment, and is rarely busy. There’s a Japanese restaurant in the lobby and a basement supermarket with some foreign goods, though most are Asian.
